Dennis P. Eastman, M.D.

Dennis P. Eastman, M.D. Dennis P. Eastman, M.D. joined Lubbock Heart Surgery as a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon in 2008. However, Dr. Eastman has been practicing as a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon since 1998 in the United States Army. He was most recently at the Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Ft. Gordon, Georgia where he held the position of Chief, Surgical Care Line. At the same time he was also Chief, Cardiothoracic Surgery Service at the Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center and the Augusta Veterans Administration Hospital as well as Surgical Consultant for Southeast Regional Medical Command and Assistant Consultant in Cardiothoracic Surgery for the Office of the Surgeon General. He is originally from Cocoa Beach, Florida.

After graduating from Creighton University in 1982 as a distinguished military graduate (ROTC), Dr. Eastman entered the United States Army. In the Army, he attended the F. Edward Herbert School of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. After completing medical school, he then completed a surgical internship and residency at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. Dr. Eastman later completed a residency in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery and a fellowship in Vascular Surgery at the Carolinas Heart Institute in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is board certified in Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery through the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and is board certified in Vascular Surgery, Surgery and Surgical Critical Care through the American Board of Surgery.

During Dr. Eastman's 26 years in the Army he attained the rank of Colonel, received several awards and commendations, and completed several different appointments/assignments. These appointments/assignments included Group Surgeon, 528th United States Army Artillery Group in Cakmakli, Turkey; Staff Surgeon, Surgical Director of the Intensive Care Unit, Chief of General Surgery Service, and Chief of the Department of Surgery at Reynolds Army Community Hospital in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma; Staff Surgeon in the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Services, and Assistant Chief and Acting Chief of the Department of Surgery at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center; and Chief of Surgery and DCCS, 21st CSH, Task Force 21 North, Mosul, Iraq.

Dr. Eastman also completed academic appointments as an Advanced Trauma Life Support Instructor; Clinical Assistant Professor and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences; General Surgery Residency staff for Vascular Surgery at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center; and Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery and Affiliation Site Director for the Cardiothoracic Residency Program at the Medical College of Georgia.

Dr. Eastman is a member of the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, the Lubbock-Crosby-Garza Medical Society, the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Surgeons, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has participated in several publications and presentations.
